Sanctions imposed on Russia have severely limited its ability to replenish its stockpile of ammunition used in the war against Ukraine.
This was reported by CNN with reference to a new analysis by the US Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
According to the analysis,
Russia has lost more than 6,000 pieces of equipment
since the start of the full-scale invasion.
At the same time, the Russian military is scrambling to acquire the microchips, engines and thermal imaging technologies needed to create new weapons.
Defense and industrial complexes of the Russian Federation are forced to idle periodically due to sharp restrictions on exports to this country.
Thus, the largest Russian manufacturers of microelectronics temporarily
suspended production
, because they could not provide themselves with the necessary foreign components.
Due to the lack of bearings in Russia,
the production of tanks, aircraft, submarines
and other military systems was undermined.
Thus, just a few months after the start of a full-scale war, in May, the defense industry of the Russian Federation faced a shortage of materials and components for ship diesels, parts for helicopters and airplanes, as well as fire control systems.
So Russia had to turn to Soviet-era tanks, removing them from storage for use in Ukraine.
The publication recalled that in the spring, officials in the United States admitted that it would take months for the Russian military to run out of stockpiles.
Now the United States says that
Russia is wasting ammunition at an excessive rate
and is turning to Iran and North Korea for help.
This indicates a deficit that arose in the Russian defense industry after the ban on the export to the Russian Federation of key necessary technologies for advanced weapons at the beginning of the war.
The analysis also indicated that in order to purchase the necessary components, Russia tried to circumvent Western sanctions on critical technologies with the help of large networks of oligarchs and front companies, aimed, in particular, at Europe and North America.
The impact of sanctions on the "defense" of Russia
Sanctions have "melted" Russia's ability to finance the war against Ukraine, but China and Turkey are helping the aggressor bypass Western restrictions.
This is reported by EUobserver with reference to the report of the European Commission.
Russia has long-term difficulties in producing new means of warfare, as evidenced by the fact that it has begun ordering drones and ammunition from Iran and North Korea.
In October, the EU introduced the eighth package of sanctions against the Russian Federation.
In particular, it included restrictions on oil prices, which would significantly reduce the ability of the aggressor country to finance the war.
