The European Union (EU) is committed to continue acting as an honest mediator between Armenia and Azerbaijan to achieve the goal of a secure, prosperous and peaceful South Caucasus for the benefit of the peoples.

APA reports that Joseph Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Policy and Security Affairs, said this in his reply letter to the written letter addressed to him by the deputies of the European Parliament in early October.

Borrell stressed that the armed clashes that took place in early August and on September 13-14, 2022, were severe in terms of the scale of the destruction and the number of casualties, and all this proved the extreme fragility of the situation in the region.

In his letter, the High Representative of the EU reminded that during the conflicts, the EU at the highest level called for an immediate cessation of hostilities.

He mentioned that he personally communicated with the leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Armenia.

"The President of the EU Council is in close contact with the leadership of both Azerbaijan and Armenia," Borrell added.

The EU official noted that it is now important to preserve and consolidate the ceasefire, and the EU is discussing with the parties the best way to contribute to this and revive efforts towards the peace process.

Borrell noted that it is important to continue working on reducing the risks of future collisions.

The EU also supports progress on international border delimitation and demarcation on both sides.

He reminded that the meeting of the delimitation and demarcation commissions will be held in Brussels in November.
