Defense ministers of NATO countries held the sixth Ramstein-format meeting in Brussels, dedicated to military aid to Ukraine.

The West supported the provision of air and missile defense systems to Ukraine after Russian missile strikes on Ukrainian cities and energy infrastructure.

In addition, the German government previously decided to provide Ukraine with four IRIS-T anti-aircraft missile systems, the first of which has already arrived at its destination.

TSN.ua collected details of how the West will help protect Ukraine from missile attacks.

Ukrainian air defense has become a priority for the West

NATO Secretary General

Jens Stoltenberg

said in Brussels that the Allies will focus on air defense systems for Ukraine.

"The top priority will be more air defense systems for Ukraine," he emphasized.

US Secretary of Defense

Lloyd Austin

said that the United States will provide Ukraine with air defense systems as soon as physically possible.

At the same time, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States, General

Mark Milley

 , said that

one of the air defense systems that Ukraine is asking for is the Hawk

or the improved Hawkeye system.

"This is a medium-altitude, medium-range system. It's an old system, but it's quite effective," he said.

Milli also hinted at

creating, together with allies, an integrated missile defense system to close the Ukrainian sky

, using various air defense and anti-missile systems: the American Patriot, the Israeli "Iron Dome" and the German IRIS-T.

British Defense Minister

Ben Wallace

said that London will provide missiles for air defense systems to Ukraine.

AMRAAM medium-range air-to-air missiles can also be used by NASAMS air defense systems.

The British will also hand over hundreds of missiles for air defense of other types.

"Russia's latest indiscriminate strikes against civilian infrastructure in Ukraine require further support for those who seek to defend their country. Therefore, today

I authorized the delivery of AMRAAM anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine

," said the UK Defense Secretary.

At the Ramstein meeting, the head of the Ministry of Defense of the Netherlands,

Kaisa Ollongren,

announced the transfer of additional anti-aircraft missiles worth 15 million euros to Ukraine.

The Dutch government is usually reluctant to disclose information about specific military support for Ukraine, but this time an exception was made to demonstrate that Russia's recent missile attacks have not been without consequences.

Military expert

Oleg Zhdanov

noted that the West finally began to understand the scale of the threat coming from Russia:

"The West doesn't just understand. They have in their minds that

if our energy system collapses, they will save us

. The entire burden of the humanitarian burden will fall on the European Union, on the neighboring countries to supply here with food, fuel, generators and the rest of everything It will simply be a humanitarian disaster on a continental scale, so it finally dawns on them that it is necessary to provide complexes for protection."

German IRIS-T - strengthening for Ukraine

Expert

Oleg Zhdanov

 says that the

German IRIS-T can significantly strengthen Ukrainian air defense

.

"IRIS-T is the latest development in the anti-missile system.

The medium-range complex, the range of damage is up to 40 km, the height of damage to the target is up to 25 km

. It is a battery, six launchers, three radar stations and 24 missiles. The missiles develop a speed of up to 3,600 km /h, they are supersonic. It has a reaction time of 15 seconds per target. The system can simultaneously see 2,500 targets. If such a complex covered the sky of Kyiv, then we can guarantee that more than 90% of what flies in the direction of the city would be shot down." - explained the expert.

Zhdanov noted that the Ukrainian air defense system is based on old Soviet complexes that do not have a 360-degree view, but only cover a certain sector, unlike IRIS-T, the capabilities of which are limited only by the number of missiles in the launchers.

Military analyst, Major-General of the SBU reserve

Viktor Yagun

says that IRIS-T is a

completely new system that has never been used in combat

.

"Probably, the manufacturer himself will be interested in confirming certain parameters.

The system can intercept several targets at the same time, and in reality can partially close one of the large industrial centers

. I am not saying that it can completely ensure peace, for example, in a city like Bila Tserkva or Kryvyi Rih, but if it is included in the general system of our air defense, it will very seriously intercept those missiles on approach that can break through our deep system. Air defense is what our S300 and other systems provide," explained Yagun.

According to him, the IRIS-T compared to the Buk has more missiles and a greater ability to capture targets.

"All this in the complex gives confidence that it

will bring very serious help in our anti-aircraft defense

," he said.
