Congress Presidential candidate Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday welcomed the party's Central Election Authority's decision to conduct secret ballot in the elections, saying the Gandhi family is a big asset to the Congress and no president can distance itself from them.

He said that the election of the President is very important for the party to fight the upcoming Lok Sabha elections with courage and confidence.

During his election campaign here, Tharoor told reporters, "The election system announced by Congress's Central Election Authority (CEA) President Madhusudan Mistry is very good.

He talked about secret ballot.

Voting will be done secretly and no one will know who voted for whom.

People can vote as per their wish.

Tharoor said, "What a person likes or doesn't like, it is his right to vote.

Our party has done a good job by publicly announcing the decision regarding the voting system.

Whoever wins, it will be the victory of Congress.

That's why I am contesting this election.

In fact, Congress's Central Election Authority chief Madhusudan Mistry said on Wednesday that there will be secret voting in the election of the party president and it cannot be ascertained who voted for whom and how many votes a candidate got from which state.

He also said that the election authority has made every effort to ensure that there is equal opportunity for both the candidates.

Asked about criticism of the Gandhi family running the Congress under "remote control", Tharoor said that if he and senior leader Mallikarjun Kharge have reached the level where they are confident of contesting for the president's post, they will They also know how to work in the party.

"At the same time, the Gandhi family is a big asset and no president can keep distance from them," he said.

Voting for the post of Congress President is to be held on October 17 and counting of votes will take place on October 19.

Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor are the candidates in this.

Tharoor also said that he has not distanced himself from the issues which were raised in the letter of the Group of 23 Congress leaders (G-23).
