The Saryu river is once again in spate due to the release of about 4.70 lakh cusecs of water from various barrages and incessant rains.

Seeing the rising water level of Saryu, the villagers of the villages on the banks have lost their sleep.

More than two dozen villages have been engulfed by water.

The water level of the river continues to rise since Saturday morning.

According to the district administration, the Saryu river is currently flowing at 93.500 meters instead of the danger mark of 92.730 meters.

The flood areas are being monitored by the flood division and the district administration.

Aid material is also being distributed to the flood victims.

Administration officials said on Tuesday that more than two dozen villages, including Sarwarpur, Kashipur and Ailiya Juggaram, were engulfed in water from all sides due to the rise in the water level of the Saryu river.

The main roads leading out of the villages have been flooded with water.

Flood water is entering the houses.

Officials of the Central Water Commission have said that Saryu is flowing at 93.50 meters above the danger mark of 92.73 meters by 77 centimeters.

The water level of Saryu is still rising on the Elgin Bridge in the upper reaches of the river.

The water level of the river is expected to rise further.

This is also causing loss of livestock.

Sources also said that a flood warning had to be issued in Basti after 7.72 lakh cusecs of water was released from Sharda, Girija and Saryu barrages due to incessant rains.

The water level of the river, which has already reached 55 cm above the danger mark, is expected to rise by two feet.

In view of this, people living in a dozen villages situated between the river and the embankment have been asked to leave the village and go to flood shelters.

The water pressure has increased on the susceptible embankments Kataria-Chandpur, Gaura-Saifabad.


District Magistrate Priyanka Niranjan, along with Chief Development Officer, Additional District Magistrate, Sub-District Magistrate and officers of the flood division, has directed to intensify the monitoring of the embankments and provide necessary materials in the flood shelters.

He said that the flood victims should not face any kind of trouble.
