Criminalists from the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Montana discovered in a few days the arsonist of an elderly person's house in the village of Yakimovo, the police directorate announced.

A 77-year-old man's house caught fire at 9pm on 5 October and the fire destroyed a large part of the home and rendered it unusable before it was extinguished by firefighters from Lom.

An investigation into the case was immediately started and a few days later the arsonist was identified - a 38-year-old man from the village with a criminal record.

In order to solve the crime, an investigative experiment was carried out, witnesses were questioned and physical evidence was seized.

Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated against the alleged perpetrator, the police directorate in Montana said.
