Qiu Renwu, chairman of the Tainan Ecological Conservation Society, said that after the first black-faced spoonbill flew to the Qigu Reserve on September 10 this year, a dozen and more than 30 were found arriving one after another. Qiu Renwu said that the Black-faced Spoonbill Conservation Season will start on October 16. Qiu Renwu said that the 2022 global census will be conducted between January 8 and 9. Following the record high of 5,222 last year, the number of black-faced spoonbills in the world has continued to reach new highs. This year, a total of 6,162 black-faced spoonbills were recorded, except for Macau and the Philippines. , the number of winter areas has increased, and the overall number has increased by 940 compared with 2021.

Among them, Taiwan is the region with the most obvious growth rate. A total of 3,824 animals were surveyed in Taiwan, which exceeded the global total by 60%. Compared with last year, there was an increase of 692 animals, an increase of 22.1%, and the number of ethnic groups maintained an upward trend.

Taiwan's black-faced spoonbill mainly spends winter on the southwest coast. More than 90% of the population is distributed in Tainan, Chiayi, Kaohsiung, and Yunlin. This year, there are 2,158 (56.4%) in Tainan and 962 in Chiayi ( 25.2%), Kaohsiung has 369 (9.7%) and so on.
