[Reporter Huang Mingtang / Taitung Report] The caisson needed for the expansion project of Fugang Fishing Port in Taitung County weighed thousands of tons. Yesterday afternoon, the caisson set sail from the Lijia River estuary and was towed for 12 kilometers by a tugboat. It arrived at the port early this morning. Then, the submerged seabed was used as the foundation, and the embankment was built successively, and the new land of Haipu was created.

The expansion project of Fugang Port requires a total of 3 caissons, two of which are to be constructed at the Beinan River outlet, and one caisson required for the South Sea Wall to be constructed at the Lijia River outlet, with a length of 30, a width of 25, and a height of 15 meters. , looks like a 5-storey apartment from a distance. It was completed on the coast half a year ago, and it was not towed to its destination until yesterday.

Xu Jiahao, director of the county government's agriculture department, said that the cost of the South Seawall project is about 300 million yuan. The caisson is the seafloor foundation structure of the seawall. The caisson weighs thousands of tons, but it can still float at sea using the principle of buoyancy.

In order to float the caisson on land, several strange hands and water pumps excavated and pumped sand beside the caisson, and introduced seawater, so that the seawater could take away the sand and water below the caisson. It floated up, set sail at 4:40 pm yesterday, and dragged 12 kilometers north to Fugang Port. After the seabed scheduled to be launched is finally leveled, seawater can be introduced to let the caisson sink to the bottom of the sea.

Xu Jiahao said that after the caisson is successfully placed, stones and sand will be put into the box to increase the weight of the caisson. This part of the work will take about 2 months, and the seawall construction project will be carried out for another 2 months.
