The French Foreign Ministry has called on citizens in Iran to leave the country as soon as possible.

APA reports that information about this was included in the statement issued by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reads:

"French citizens transiting through Iran are asked to leave the country as soon as possible, taking into account the risks of arbitrary detention."

The ministry says that French citizens in Iran face the risk of arrest and unfair trial.

The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned that the French embassy in Tehran has very limited opportunities to provide consular protection to citizens detained or arrested in Iran.
