At least 10 people have died and 60 people are missing as a result of the sinking of a boat in Anambra state in the south-east of Nigeria.

APA reports with reference to the Reuters agency that the National Emergency Management Agency of the country said that the ship with 85 people on board capsized and sank as a result of a strong flood.

Anambra state governor said in a statement that 10 people drowned as a result of the incident.

The head of the State Emergency Situations Agency of the province reported that 15 people were rescued by Saturday evening thanks to the rescue operations.

It should be noted that Anambra is among 29 of Nigeria's 36 states that have experienced severe floods this year.

As a result of the natural disaster that affected the lives of half a million residents, houses, agricultural fields and roads were heavily damaged.
