Important hearing in Gyanvapi case today in Varanasi court

Gyanvapi Masjid- In the Shringar Gauri case

, the Varanasi Court will today pronounce its verdict on carbon dating of the alleged Shivling found in the Gyanvapi Masjid premises.

Four of the five parties had demanded a scientific investigation by the ASI of the alleged Shivling.

On September 29, the court had reserved the verdict.

The argument of the Masjid side is that there is no "Shivalinga" fountain.

One of the five Hindu parties opposed the scientific examination of the alleged "Shivling".

After two o'clock in the afternoon, the court can pronounce the verdict. It is worth noting that on August 18, 2021, five women of Banaras together filed a petition in the Varanasi court seeking permission to worship Shringar Gauri throughout the year. 

  • On 26 April/2022, the court appointed Ajay Mishra as the court commissioner and ordered a survey of the Shringar Gauri temple in the Gyanvapi Masjid courtyard.

  • On May 6, 2022, the court commissioner started the survey work of Gyanvapi Masjid. 

  • On May 7, 2022, the Masjid side filed a petition in the court and raised questions on the impartiality of the court commissioner Ajay Mishra. 

  • On May 12, 2022, the court refused to remove Ajay Mishra.

    Along with this, two more court commissioners were appointed for the survey. 

  • On May 14, 2022, the survey commission appointed by the court started the survey of Gyanvapi Masjid. 

  • On May 16, 2022, the Hindu side said that there would be a Shivling in the Waju Khana of the Gyanvapi Masjid.

    The Muslim side called it a fountain. 

  • On May 16, 2022, the court ordered the sealing of the Vazukhana. 

  • May 19, 2022: Court commission submitted survey report of Gyanvapi mosque to the court

  • May 19, 2022: Mosque Committee asks Supreme Court to stay the hearing on the plea to worship at Shringar Gauri temple.

    The Supreme Court ordered the Varanasi Court to defer hearing on this petition till May 20.

  • May 20, 2022: The Supreme Court asks the Varanasi District Judge whether the petition to worship in the Shringar-Gauri temple is worth hearing.

    Ordered to make this decision.

    The Supreme Court ordered the Varanasi Court to complete the hearing in 8 weeks.

  • August 24, 2022: The hearing of the case is completed in Varanasi Court.

  • September 12, 2022: The Varanasi court dismissed the petition of the Muslim side.

    The court said that the petition for worshiping at the Shringar Gauri temple in the Gyanvapi complex is maintainable.

  • September 22, 2022: Four of the five Hindu parties demanded a scientific investigation by the ASI into the alleged "Shivling" found in the Vazukhana. 

  • September 29, 2022: Varanasi Court reserves its decision on carbon dating of alleged "Shivling".


  • October 7, 2022: Varanasi court to give verdict on carbon dating after 2 pm
