Two teams of firefighters from the First Service in Plovdiv extinguished a fire in one of the former tobacco warehouses in the early hours of the night.

This was announced by the Regional Directorate "Fire Safety and Protection of the Population".

The fire engulfed an underground room of about 20 square meters, where old clothes and unnecessary things were piled up.

The cause of the fire is most likely human negligence.

There is no serious damage to the building.

In the summer of 2016, a fire in the former tobacco warehouses in Plovdiv destroyed four buildings.

Then the roof structures and floors of the buildings burned and only their facades remained.

The homeless Lyubomir Danchev, who used a room in one of the buildings for living, was accused of causing the fire.

He was sentenced to 4 years in prison.

On the first of September this year, the demolition of one of the tobacco warehouses on G. M. Dimitrov Street in Plovdiv began.

Then the Acting Minister of Culture Prof. Velislav Minekov arrived urgently in the city and tried to stop the excavator, but the building was still demolished.

The status of all 12 buildings in the Tobacco City in Plovdiv will be changed and they will be declared immovable cultural value, Minekov announced during his visits.
