On October 6, a round table on "Peace and security on the European continent" was held in Prague within the framework of the "European Political Union" Summit.

APA reports that the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev participated in the event.

Speaking at the round table, President Ilham Aliyev said that a new situation has arisen in the region after the Second Karabakh War.

Despite the 30-year occupation by Armenia, the destruction and atrocities committed during the occupation, Azerbaijan made a proposal to sign a peace treaty with Armenia.

The head of state said that the basis of this peace agreement is the 5 principles proposed by Azerbaijan - mutual recognition of each other's sovereignty, territorial integrity, inviolability of international borders and political independence;

Mutual confirmation of the absence of territorial claims against each other by the states and taking a legal commitment that such a claim will not be raised in the future;

From threatening each other's security in interstate relations,

refrain from threats and use of force against political independence and territorial integrity, as well as other situations inconsistent with the goals of the UN Charter;

Delimitation and demarcation of the state border, establishment of diplomatic relations;

The opening of transport and communications, the establishment of other relevant communications and the establishment of cooperation in other areas of mutual interest should be organized.

In this regard, President Ilham Aliyev emphasized the importance of the meetings held with the participation and initiative of the President of the Council of the European Union Charles Michel in the process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and in the formation of the Brussels peace agenda.

The head of our state reminded that on October 2, the foreign ministers of the two countries had a meeting on this issue.

At the same time, President Ilham Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan supports the process of normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia.

He emphasized that the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia and the normalization process between Turkey and Armenia are mutually complementary processes that can serve to ensure peace and tranquility in the region as a whole.

The head of our state also noted the importance of creating a single discussion platform in the tripartite format of Azerbaijan-Georgia-Armenia in terms of ensuring peace and stability in the South Caucasus.

He said that energy, communication and other issues of mutual interest can be discussed here.

In the end, President Ilham Aliyev once again mentioned the role of the principles of international law in interstate relations, and especially drew attention to the principle of territorial integrity.

He emphasized the importance of the same approach to this principle and the predominance of this principle in interstate relations.

He also noted the importance of setting aside selective approaches in relation to this principle.
