Bulgaria supports initiatives at the European level to stabilize the energy market, including a ceiling on the price of natural gas and the change of the TTF index as a reference for the price of gas in Europe.

This comment was made to journalists by the Acting Minister of Energy, Rosen Hristov

Rosen Hristov has a master's degree in international economic relations from the University of California at the opening of the conference "Energy Transition - Investments, Technologies and Networks", organized by the Institute of Energy Management, reports Bulgaria ON AIR.

He specified that the Bulgarian position is that the gas ceiling should be for all suppliers, because at the moment Europe receives very few quantities of Russian gas and a ceiling on the price of these supplies will only be a sanction and will not help to stabilize the market as a whole .

"The measures must be comprehensive in order to have a market effect," commented the energy minister.

15 EU countries, including Bulgaria, have requested a cap on the price of natural gas, and this request will be discussed by European leaders when they meet on Friday (7 October).

Against the idea, however, are Germany, Austria and Denmark, who share the opinion that such a restriction would violate security of supply.

Ursula von der Leyen declared herself in favor of a gas price cap

The EC also has similar concerns, and it became clear from the words of President Ursula von der Leyen before the European Parliament that they are ready to discuss restrictions on the price of gas used for electricity production in Brussels.

As for a general ceiling, von der Leyen said it would be a temporary measure until a new price index is chosen.

"When the state and the institutions intervene in the market, the calculations must be made very clearly in order to be sure that we will not distort the market and achieve the opposite effect in the short and long term," Hristov was categorical.
