The decision of the Russian authorities to take out Ukrainian refugees who were waiting to cross the border with southeastern Estonia on Wednesday, October 5, cannot be accidental and indicates preparation for a provocation.

This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Urmas Reinsalu, ERR informs.

According to the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, queues at the border and their sudden disappearance are not accidental.

In his opinion, it is about "systemic activity", which in a certain form can be provocative against the borders of the EU.

The minister is sure that the Russian Federation deliberately slowed down the crossing of the border by Ukrainians, creating huge queues.

"Given that people who wanted to go to Estonia arrived at this border point (Luhamaa - Shumilkino), their disappearance from there must have been violent. We have no information about what force was used, but it is clear that in the context war in Ukraine, Russia chose who was allowed to cross the border," he added.

"We condemn the Russian Federation for not allowing refugees from Ukraine across the border and for using them in hybrid actions," Reinsalu said.

He confirmed that Estonia is monitoring the situation with all available means.

We will remind that over the last few days more than a thousand people, mostly Ukrainians, have gathered on the Russian side of the southeastern border of Estonia.

The Minister of the Interior of Estonia, Lauri Laenemets, said that the people standing at the border were collected and taken somewhere by trucks.

Before that, Ukrainians complained that the Russians set up "filtration" at the border, take away phones and terrorize them with questions about their attitude towards Putin, the occupation forces and the "Russian world".

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine assured that they are currently investigating all the circumstances of this incident.
