On Wednesday, October 5, US President Joe Biden and his wife arrived in Florida, which was devastated by Hurricane Ian.

Here, he spoke with community leaders and local residents affected by the storm, stopping at Fishermans Pass in Fort Myers.

This is reported by The Daily Mail.

During his speech, Biden drew parallels between the hurricane that completely destroyed hundreds of homes in the community and claimed more than a hundred lives, and the lightning strike that struck his home in 2004.

He noted that he also "lost a lot."

"I know from experience how much anxiety, fear and worry people have.

We didn't lose the whole house, but lightning struck and we lost a lot," he said.

When Biden was still a US senator from the state of Delaware, his home in Wilmington was actually struck by lightning, causing a small fire that was confined to the kitchen.

Firefighters arrived before the appearance of heavy smoke and extinguished the fire after 20 minutes.

Biden also said at the community meeting that victims could be eligible for nearly $80,000 in home repairs and vehicle replacements and repairs.

Ahead of the president's visit, Gov. DeSantis said Florida was "lucky" the White House had signed a state of emergency before Hurricane Ian became a tropical storm, and said he "appreciates the swift action."

As of Tuesday, October 4, 109 deaths were reported from the hurricane, the highest number since 1935.

About 318,000 homes and businesses were still without power as of Wednesday morning, a week after Hurricane Ian made landfall in Florida.

It will be recalled that one of the most dangerous storms in recent years hit the American state of Florida.

Due to bad weather, more than 2 million people were left without electricity.
