The head of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, said that at the summit in Prague, which will take place on October 7, she will appeal to the leaders of the European Union countries to hand over the tanks necessary for Ukraine to resist Russian aggression.

This was reported by France24 on Wednesday, October 5.

"Ukrainians need weapons with which they can fight to regain their territory, and this means, for example, Leopard II tanks, which several member states have," said the head of the European Parliament.

Metsola also said that countries that wish to provide tanks will receive compensation from the European Peace Facility, which has allocated 2.5 billion euros to Ukraine for military purchases.

"We need to have these discussions now because we see the escalation in Russia, and on the other hand, when we see Ukraine successfully pushing out the Russians," she said.

Chairman of the European Parliament, that the concern of some countries about the loss of their own national defense potential due to the supply of weapons to Ukraine is exaggerated.

In particular, she is sure that the supply of Leopard tanks to Ukraine will not affect the overall combat readiness of individual countries.

According to Metsola, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Norway, as well as non-EU Switzerland and Turkey, have a total of about 2,000 tanks.

We will remind you that earlier the Minister of Defense Oleksiy Reznikov told how Ukraine can get tanks and whether we can buy them under the lend-lease program.
