Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with the Chairman of the National Council of the Republic of Namibia Lucas Sinimbo Muha in the capital Jakarta as part of her business trip to Indonesia on October 5.

According to the information given to APA by Milli Majlis, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova said that despite the short history of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Namibia, there is great potential for the development of mutually beneficial bilateral relations between our countries.

The chairman of the Milli Majlis expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation of our countries on international platforms and drew attention to the existence of useful relations within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement.

He reminded that a delegation led by the President of the Republic of Namibia Hage Gottfried Geingob visited Azerbaijan within the framework of the 18th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement member countries held in Baku on October 23-26, 2019.

The Speaker also emphasized Namibia's support for the initiative of the Movement's parliamentary dimension as the chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement of Azerbaijan, noting that the parliamentary delegation of this country participated in the founding meeting of the Parliamentary Network in Madrid in November 2021.

The speaker of the Parliament of Azerbaijan, as the chairman of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, informed about the results of the Baku conference, the tasks facing the organization, and the planned events.

Lukas Sinimbo Muha, Chairman of the National Council of the Republic of Namibia, sincerely greeted the Speaker of the Parliament of Azerbaijan and expressed his satisfaction with the meeting.

Emphasizing that his country is interested in expanding relations with Azerbaijan, he noted the role of cooperation between legislative bodies in this context.

Lukas Sinimbo Muha, talking about cooperation within international organizations, noted that cooperation in international platforms such as the UN, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement is very important for his country.

In particular, Namibia attaches great importance to cooperation with the Non-Aligned Movement and highly appreciates the organization's active role in the system of international relations.

At the meeting, opinions were exchanged on other issues of mutual interest.
