NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg through diplomatic channels received Ukraine's application for joining the Alliance under the accelerated procedure, which was signed last week by the President, the Prime Minister and the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada.

Deputy Head of the Office of the President Ihor Zhovkva announced this at a briefing on October 4.

"The next stage will be

the discussion of this application at the level of the North Atlantic Council

, i.e. at the level of the ambassadors of NATO member states in Brussels," said the OP representative.

He also explained what is meant by the accelerated procedure for joining NATO.

It is about continuing integration into the Alliance

without applying the Membership Action Plan

, "which until today was one of the mandatory elements."

"Therefore, Ukraine is counting on a suitable model of movement, and, of course, both the President of Ukraine and the diplomatic service are negotiating with NATO member states to ensure that such an application receives practical consideration," Zhovkva said.

We will remind, the day before, the adviser to the head of the OP Mykhailo Podolyak informed that 48 hours after Ukraine signed the application for accelerated accession to NATO, the state's membership in the Alliance was supported by 10 member countries of the bloc.

According to expert Oleksandr Kalinichenko, if Ukraine is invited to join NATO at the next or one summit of the Alliance, then within a year after that the state can finally join the bloc.
