Mehbooba Mufti said that Gujjars and Paharis have been living together for centuries.

Srinagar:

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was trying to pit the hills and Gujjars against each other in the Jammu region.

"There has been a lot of tension in the Pir Panjal region for the past few days as there is talk of reservation for the Pahari community.

Brothers have been made enemies.

They are being prepared to fight against each other.

She was referring to reports of tension between the two communities in the wake of claims made in a section of the media that Union Home Minister Amit Shah would announce reservation in jobs and education for the Pahari community at a rally in Rajouri on Tuesday.

Mufti said that Gujjars and Paharis have been living together for centuries and fighting against each other should be stopped.

She said, "I request the Gujjar, Bakarwal and Pahari communities to stop fighting against each other and remember.

Everything is provided by God.

God will give him what that person deserves.

Home ministers will come and go, BJP is here today, but not tomorrow.

The Mufti said, "However, those who are creating enmity, rifts (that will remain)... you are all one... and live in the same place."

The former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister said that the BJP earlier pitted Hindus and Muslims against each other and now it is pitting Gujjars and Paharis against each other.

She said, "I request all of you to stop this.

Whoever is in luck, he will definitely get it.

Stay together and thwart their (BJP) designs.
