The body of Mykhailo Matyushenko, the dead pilot from Buchi, who led the "Ghosts of Kyiv" and died in battle over the Black Sea, was found.

This was announced by the mayor of Buchi, Anatoly Fedoruk.

"During the execution of a combat mission in an air battle, Colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykhailo Yuriyovych Matyushenko (01.08.1961-06.26.2022) died heroically in an aerial battle. He was from Buchi and

died in the sky over the Black Sea

," the mayor noted. .

According to the mayor, the pilot

operated many types of military and civilian aircraft

.

He served in various military units,

before the war he worked as a manager of one of the Ukrainian airlines

.

Matyushenko was a successful person and never boasted about what he actually did.

Having an active civic position, he headed the public formation of law enforcement.

"Mykhailo Matyushenko - nicknamed "Grandfather" - passed on his invaluable work experience to the younger generation. And only now do we have the right to tell the truth:

"Ghost of Kyiv"

was led by a pilot from Buchi.

With the arrival of Colonel Matyushenko to the leadership of the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade, there were no losses in the air.

So, all the pilots from "Kyiv Ghosts" returned alive," the mayor said.

"One of the nights, "Grandpa" jumped into a dogfight on an L-39, simulating an attack by MiG-29s on a pair of Su-30s. And what do you think? They retreated!", the brothers recall one of the episodes.

Later, the pilot decided to strengthen the southern and eastern fronts: "When "Grandfather" found out about the irreversible losses of the trained bomber crews, the decision was made. This is how a new operation began."

Mayor Buchi reported that this was the last mission for Matyushenko.

The hero did not return from another flight, he was searched for a long time - and today his body is going home.

Farewell will be held on Monday, October 3 at 2 p.m., on Alley of Heroes in Buch - at the cemetery on Deputatska Street, 1.

We will remind that on September 30, the Armed Forces of Ukraine "minus" an enemy helicopter, an attack aircraft and 5 Iranian "mopeds".
