Indonesian police say at least 127 people have been killed and 180 injured in riots that broke out after a soccer match in East Java, the Associated Press reported.

After the Indonesian Premier League match ended with Persebaya beating Arema, there were several fights between supporters of the two teams at the stadium.

Police used tear gas to disperse the protesters, but this caused panic and hundreds of fans rushed to the exit.

Many of them suffocated in the stampede and others were trampled by the crowd.

Thirty-four people died on the spot.

Over 300 people were taken to nearby hospitals, but many died on the way.

Two of the dead are policemen, adds BTA.
