On Sunday, October 2, Australia imposed targeted financial sanctions and a travel ban on "ministers" and other Gauleiter appointed by the Kremlin to lead the occupied territories of Ukraine.

This was reported by Reuters with reference to the statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Penny Wong.

According to her, these persons violate international law in order to legitimize Russia's actions in Ukraine through "fictitious referendums, disinformation and intimidation."

In total, there are 28 people on the list.

"These additional sanctions reinforce Australia's strong objection to the actions of President Putin and those who carry out his orders," Penny Wong said.

She emphasized that the regions of Ukraine currently occupied by Russian troops are the sovereign territory of our country and no fictitious referendum will change that.

In addition, the Australian government appealed to the International Court of Justice to support Ukraine's claim against Russia for violating the Genocide Convention.

"We support Ukraine in initiating this proceeding against Russia at the UN International Court of Justice," Attorney General Mark Dreyfus said in a joint statement with Penny Wong.

It will be recalled that earlier the Australian authorities decided to stop leasing the land on which Russia was going to build a new embassy.
