A major fire broke out at the Belbek Russian military airfield in Sevastopol.

Local mass media, Telegram channels and the Russian authorities of the city report this.

"Belbek airport is on fire," reported the PP/Sevastopol telegram channel.

The videos he published show plumes of black, thick smoke and the aftermath of new explosions.

Pro-Russian blogger Alexander Talipav also published a video of the incident.

It shows explosions continuing in the smoke-shrouded airport.

The Russian head of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvazhaev, called what happened "an extraordinary situation at the Belbek airfield."

"According to the information of the rescuers, the plane rolled off the runway and caught fire during landing.

Now fire brigades are working on the spot," Razvazhaev wrote in his Telegram channel.

Later he admitted that "there was a partial detonation of ammunition" at the airport.

"The pilot managed to evacuate.

The fire was quickly extinguished, the airfield was not damaged," says Razvazhaev.

  • On August 9, it became known about a series of explosions at the military airfield in the village of Novofeodoravka in the Saksky District of the Crimea annexed by Russia.

    Citing a high-ranking Ukrainian official, The New York Times reported that "an elite Ukrainian military unit was involved" in the explosions near Jankou in Crimea.
