Ukraine's announcement of its intention to join NATO under an accelerated procedure and the speech of the Secretary General of the Alliance on the same day are related events.

Kyiv's application was agreed upon, as stated by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba.

Political scientist Yaroslav Bozhko told Channel 24 about this.

He explained that previously Ukraine could not submit an application to join NATO, because the will of its largest members, such as the USA, had to be there.

"Obviously, the Western partners agreed with Ukraine on the issue of time. In our case, the application for membership in NATO would not be made unilaterally. No one would have done it so unsuccessfully without the consent of the Western partners," the political scientist believes.

He also noted that the

war is not a direct legal obstacle to the accession of any state to the Alliance.

Yes, membership is theoretically possible without full control of territories.

Bozhko referred to the NATO resolutions of 1999, which states that it would be good if the countries joining NATO did not have international disputes or resolved them peacefully.

"However, they are not mandatory. Any European state can be accepted as a member of NATO, if all 30 countries that are part of NATO agree to it," the expert noted.

He is convinced that

Ukraine's application for membership in the Alliance will still be considered.

"The application will be considered one way or another, and we already understand that at this stage technically there are not many obstacles. It would be good, of course, to win the war as soon as possible. However, we understand that this is not a direct legal obstacle," Bozhko emphasized .

We will remind you that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that on September 30, Ukraine

submitted an application

to join NATO under the accelerated procedure.

On the same day, Stoltenberg held a press conference where he said that the doors of the Alliance remain open to any democratic country.

Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to the head of the President's Office, said that as soon as Ukraine wins the war, there will be no obstacles to joining NATO.
