Czech MEP Tomasz Zdechovsky shared a satirical joke on Twitter about the division of the Russian Kaliningrad region between Poland and the Czech Republic.

Later, the Russian news site EurAsia Daily reported on this as a serious proposal, reports the Czech publication iDnes.

A Czech politician reposted a tweet by an anonymous author from Poland.

"It's time to divide Kaliningrad so that our Czech brothers finally have access to the sea," reads the original post, which is accompanied by a map showing the division of the territory into two halves.

After he shared this satirical post, a Russian news site called his post a "revanchist statement."

In response, Zdehovsky said that Russia should be prepared for the fact that if it tries to annex someone else's territory based on dubious referendums, it could provoke an ironic debate about whether that country should leave Kaliningrad.

"I believe that the debate is legitimate and that Russia should really consider its future international steps," he said, recalling that the city was originally founded in honor of the Czech king Přemysl Otakar II.

He also stated that he was not surprised that his post was taken seriously in Russia.

"I think that Russians take themselves too seriously, both from the point of view of politics and from the point of view of international relations.

We need to increasingly hold up a mirror to them and show that we are not afraid of them and their threats and that we are ready to support Ukraine in its struggle for the return of all territories," he added.

It will be recalled that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin attempted to annex Ukrainian territories on September 30.

After Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the documents on the annexation of the occupied territories of Ukraine to the Russian Federation, a number of countries expressed their condemnation of this decision and their disagreement.
