A 57-year-old man from the Pleven village of Stavertsi is the first to be convicted of buying votes for the upcoming parliamentary elections, the Ministry of the Interior announced.

The man received 8 months probation with three years of probation after the Pleven court approved an agreement between the District Prosecutor's Office in Pleven and his defense.

This is an indicator of the good coordination in the work of the investigative bodies, the prosecutor's office and the court in defense of the political rights of Bulgarian citizens.

The conviction of the 57-year-old was reached after police actions within the framework of a specialized operation, held yesterday on the territory of the municipality of Dolna Mitropolia.

Employees from the RU Dolna Mitropolia and the "Counteraction of Criminal Crime" sector at the ODMVR - Pleven carried out numerous procedural - investigative actions - searches, seizures, searches and interrogations of witnesses.

83 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications in the village of Stavertsi, the Land Rover personal car of the 57-year-old was checked, where a notebook, A4 format, with handwritten 17 pages of personal data was found - three names, social security number and ID card number of residents of Dolna Mitropolia municipality.

Evidence was gathered that on a specific date and place in the city, he held personal meetings where he recorded data from the identity cards and assured that he would pay 40 /forty/ leva each after they voted for a specific political party.

He was initially detained for up to 24 hours under the Law on the Interior.

He was brought in as a defendant under Art.

167 of the Criminal Code, interrogated and detained for a period of up to 72 hours by decree of the supervising prosecutor from the District Prosecutor's Office - Pleven.

The man made a confession.

Today RS Pleven approved an agreement between the District Prosecutor's Office - Pleven and his defense and an 8 month suspended sentence with 3 years probation was imposed.

In addition, he is deprived of the right to hold elected positions for a period of 3 years.
