At the invitation of journalist John Batchelor, Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Britain Elin Suleymanov and well-known political scientist Brenda Shafer participated in the "Eye of the World" radio program of the CBS channel, which has a wide audience.

APA's British bureau reports that at the beginning of the interview, John Batchelor said that he had been to Azerbaijan several times, that the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan has been going on for a long time, that people are ready to return to their lands, that negotiations are currently ongoing, but a new conflict has begun.

In addition to the presenter's views, Brenda Shafer said that Washington is mediating bilateral meetings and is active in this direction.

In his turn, Ambassador Elin Suleymanov, Anthony Blinken and Jake Sullivan noted that he appreciated the mediation activities.

He gave general information about the fact that Azerbaijan has put forward a package of proposals consisting of 5 articles to Armenia, which includes mutual recognition of territorial integrity, non-use of force, delimitation of borders, opening of communications and other important issues that can pave the way for peace.

The ambassador said that despite the declaration of Armenia's acceptance of these proposals, no practical steps have been taken in this direction.

The ambassador said that the signing of a peace treaty between the two countries is inevitable.

He emphasized that this agreement will serve the interest of both peoples and the development of the region on a large scale.

"At the same time, the establishment of peace should serve the interests of the United States, Europe (including Great Britain), and Russia," said Elin Suleymanov.

In response to J.Bachelor's question about the provocations that led to the recent situation, the ambassador said that in September, Armenia carried out mining activities in the territories of Azerbaijan, which was a great danger and an obvious provocation.

The diplomat said that he hoped for the establishment of peace in the region, considering the recent situation, there is no logical way other than peace.

He said that Azerbaijan is currently carrying out large-scale activities aimed at the economic development of territories free from occupation, is engaged in ensuring the return of internally displaced persons to their native lands, and is in no way interested in creating a new conflict or in any situation that calls this activity into question.

J.Bachelor addressed a question to B.Shaffer about whether the latest conflict was a response to Azerbaijan's increasing role in the energy security issue of Europe.

B. Shaffer emphasized that the attack of Armenia in July 2020 did not take place from the territories of Karabakh, but in the direction of the Tovuz region, near the Southern Gas Corridor route.

Elin Suleymanov noted that Great Britain shows a serious approach to many international issues, that this approach coincides with the declared "Global Britain" concept, and noted the existence of a strong partnership between Great Britain and Azerbaijan.

He especially appreciated the help provided in the issue of demining and emphasized the strong relations of our country with NATO and the importance of Azerbaijan being strong and stable and continuing to contribute to the prosperity of the region.

He noted that the main way to ensure this is to provide assistance for conducting direct negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and reaching a peace agreement.

He said that this assistance was also provided by the EU, USA and Russia.

Emphasizing the importance of political will in Armenia for this, the ambassador recalled the recent statements of one of the former presidents of Armenia.

He said that after 30 years of occupation policy, he is on the verge of losing his independence and that the Armenian people should make appropriate decisions and determine their future.

He noted that he sees the only way out of Armenia's situation in the normalization of relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey.
