European Union energy ministers agreed on new measures in response to high energy prices at an extraordinary meeting on Friday.

"APA-Economics" informs that the Czech representation in the EU Council released information about this.

"Ministers have reached a political agreement on measures to mitigate the high prices of electricity," the representative office said in a post on its Twitter account.

These measures include an absolute reduction in electricity demand in the EU, a profit cap against companies producing electricity from cheap sources, and a "solidarity payment" on profits made in the conventional energy sector.

European Union energy ministers are expected to agree on new measures to mitigate high energy prices at an emergency meeting on Friday.

According to the information provided by "APA-Economics" referring to the foreign press, this is stated in the meeting materials of the EU Council.

"The EU energy ministers will try to reach a political agreement on the draft regulation of the Emergency Intervention Council to respond to high prices for energy carriers," the materials state.

It is hoped that the mentioned issue will be agreed today.
