On Friday, September 30, the US House of Representatives approved a bill that includes an additional $12.3 billion in military aid to Ukraine against a Russian invasion.

On the same day, President Biden signed the law into effect.

The signing of the law was announced on the official website of the White House.

This law provides for both military and economic aid to Ukraine.

It also authorizes President Biden to direct the withdrawal of up to $3.7 billion to transfer to Ukraine surplus weapons from US stockpiles.

In addition, according to the law, 35 million dollars will be allocated "for preparation and response to possible nuclear and radiation incidents in Ukraine."

As Reuters reports, in the House of Representatives, the bill met opposition from Republicans, including party leader Kevin McCarthy.

Fewer than a dozen Republicans supported its passage, so it received 226 votes to 200.

The day before, the bill was passed by the 100-seat Senate with the support of both parties.

We will remind, in the US Congress, opponents of regular military aid to Ukraine are increasing against the background of midterm elections.

In particular, the steady stream of aid is losing popularity among Republicans.
