"A military doctor with the rank of major and her wife - a civilian doctor - were arrested on charges of espionage for Russia," the BBC reported.

"Jamie Lee Henry and Anna Gabrielian were detained because they wanted to hand over confidential information about patients at a military hospital in the city of Baltimore (Maryland)," the British media added.

"Medical officials told an undercover FBI agent they were willing to hand over the data because they were motivated by love for Russia. Henry also said she wanted to join Moscow's forces involved in the Russian invasion against Ukraine," the BBC also pointed out.

"The FBI employee, who used the legend of an employee of a Russian diplomatic mission, after speaking with the married couple, reported to his colleagues and the women were taken into custody," the UK media corporation added.

"Henry and Gabrielian have been charged with espionage for a foreign country and conspiracy against the US. If convicted, the women could face life sentences," the BBC also wrote.
