On September 30, a Memorandum of Understanding on fraternization was signed between the city of Shusha of Azerbaijan and the city of Veliko Tarnovo in Bulgaria in the capital Sofia.

APA reports that the Memorandum was signed by the special representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Shusha district, Aydin Karimov, and the mayor of Veliko Tarnovo, Daniel Panov.

It should be noted that the Heydar Aliyev Foundation made an important contribution to the restoration of the "Trapezitsa" Architectural Museum Reserve located in Veliko Tarnovo, the cultural and spiritual capital of Bulgaria.

The Heydar Aliyev Foundation carried out the conservation and restoration of the 158-meter-long western wall of the historical monument, the construction of the 880-meter-long tourist alley, the creation of the Cultural Heritage Center, and the repair and conservation of three medieval churches located in this area.

On September 22, 2016, First Vice-President of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva and Vice-President of the Foundation Leyla Aliyeva participated in the opening ceremony of "Trapezitsa" Architectural Museum Reserve.

On the same day, Mehriban Aliyeva, the first lady of Azerbaijan, president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, was presented with diplomas of an honorary citizen of the city of Veliko Tarnovo and an honorary doctorate of Veliko Tarnovo University named after St. Cyril and Methodius.

The president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation was awarded the title of "Honorary Citizen of the City of Veliko Tarnovo" for his services in protecting the city's cultural heritage.
