New Delhi:

Congress Presidential candidate Shashi Tharoor has given a big statement about his accent.

In a special conversation with NDTV, he said that the accent with which he speaks English, he calls him "Stephene".

He further said that I feel that because of my accent, it is not right from anywhere to consider me an elite.

Shashi Tharoor further said that if there are some people who cannot see me apart from my accent, then they will never vote for me.

Look, the overall point is that we are part of a democracy, where everything is decided by voting.

Shashi Tharoor is now the Congress candidate along with senior party leader Mallikarjun Kharge.

For this election, 9000 Congress delegates will vote on October 17.

When Shashi Tharoor was asked that many people say that your accent is Oxbridge accent, and because of this you cannot become the president of a party which has a mass base across the country.

In response to this, Shashi Tharoor said that if people feel that I belong to some elite class, then I want to tell all such people that I have been elected to the Lok Sabha thrice.

Thiruvananthapuram is the capital of Kerala and my parliamentary constituency too, but 66 percent of the area here is rural.

I have to attract people from all walks of life living in rural areas so that they can vote for me.

And I have done this.

Well, I don't think people only see me as Oxbridge.

However, I have not even studied from there, I used to go there only for debates.

Let us inform here that Oxbridge means here Oxford and Cambridge University.
