Neil Gilevich
was born
, the national poet of Belarus, the author of the verse novel "Native Children", the collections "Leaves to the Plantain", "On the Flute of Solitude" and others.
In 1985–1996, Gilevich was a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the BSSR of the 11th and 12th convocations, he is one of the founders and the first chairman of the Society of the Belarusian Language named after Skaryna.
