[Reporter Huang Jingxi/Taipei Report] The US House of Representatives launched the House version of the "Taiwan Policy Act" yesterday, and then raised issues such as arms sales to Taiwan and strengthening bilateral relations between Taiwan and the United States.

The Legislative Yuan's People's Caucus held a press conference today, calling on the government to pragmatically find a way for Taiwan, connect the cross-strait hotline, and communicate with the other side until the last minute.

Qiu Chenyuan, the general summoner of the People's Party Group, pointed out that US President Biden made his 4th statement a few days ago that "if Taiwan suffers an unprecedented attack, the United States will send troops to help defend Taiwan", but whether the United States sends troops does not depend on Biden's will, and still needs Congress Agreed, calling on the government to find a way out for Taiwan rather than using Biden's remarks to "propaganda".

Qiu Chenyuan said that the two sides expressed condolences to each other on natural disasters, showing that there is room for goodwill between the two sides. The government should not give up the opportunity to seize peace, and must connect the hotline and communicate with the other side until the last moment.

Legislator Zhang Qilu pointed out that the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Mainland Affairs Council have successively declared to the public that "once the anti-Lai pig referendum is passed, it will impact the progress of trade agreements such as Taiwan-US TIFA and BTA." Or the actual progress of the BTA, whether the United States is unwilling to establish substantial bilateral economic and trade relations with Taiwan, or whether the Tsai government has been "internally propagating" in recent years.

Zhang Qilu believes that Taiwan's security cannot rely solely on the goodwill and assistance of the United States. In addition to strengthening its own defense capabilities, it should also actively allow the Mainland Affairs Council and the cross-strait negotiation channel to function, maintain substantive and effective communication, and reduce tensions.

The Popular Caucus also hopes that the government should make good use of the goodwill of the United States to promote the United States to assist Taiwan in participating in international affairs such as the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), and urge the United States to speed up the delivery of weapons, so as to urge the United States to do so. Make an actual commitment to support Taiwan.
