Russia is exploring the possibility of holding a meeting between Russian and American negotiators to discuss a landmark nuclear arms control agreement, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said today, as quoted by Reuters.

Moscow is open to renewing the treaty with Washington on measures to further reduce and limit strategic offensive weapons, Zakharova said.

She added that Russia hopes that joint plans with the United States for the exploitation of outer space will be realized.

"We are guided by the fact that regardless of the unprecedented worsening of Russian-American relations due to Washington's fault, the preservation of pragmatic interaction in space is in the interest of both sides," said Zakharova, quoted by TASS.

She also commented on the subject of the leaks from the Nord Stream gas pipelines.

"There is an absolute winner from this situation – it is Washington," Zakharova said.

According to her, the suspension of gas supply from Russia to Europe will help the US to increase its supplies of liquefied natural gas to the continent.

"In July, right there - in the area of the island of Bornholm, NATO conducted an exercise in which it used deep-sea equipment," Zakharova pointed out.

"We really want to believe that the international investigation into what happened to the gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea will have an objective character," said the spokeswoman for Russian diplomacy.
