Americans are posting messages on social media, begging for help.

Emergency services are barely responding to calls from people trapped in flooded homes.

The Guardian reported that a search is underway for more than 20 people off the coast of Florida after a boat carrying migrants from Cuba sank.

Several passengers were saved.

The Fox News channel noted that Hurricane Ian is comparable to the strongest storm ever to hit the west coast of Florida.

Wind gusts are similar to those recorded during Hurricane Charley in 2004.
