The Minister of Youth and Sports Vesela Lecheva

Vesela Lecheva was born on May 20, 1964 in Veliko Tarnovo.

Graduates of the National Sports Academy held a telephone conversation with the director of the Agency for Youth and Sports of North Macedonia Naumce Moisovski on the occasion of the match of the national football teams in the League of Nations tournament, the press center of the Ministry of Sports reports.

Lecheva told her North Macedonian colleague that, as a minister and athlete, she was outraged by the behavior of the fans at the stadium who whistled the national anthem of Bulgaria.

"Bridges are built through sport, it serves good causes, there is no place for politics in it.

As a member of the Bulgarian government, I am bitter about what we witnessed.

As a former athlete, I know what an honor it is to listen to your country's anthem and how ugly it can be to insult it.

Not only the football players suffer, but also all the fans of the game," Lecheva said in her conversation with Moiskovski and expressed hope that the sports field is the place where our peoples should build friendships, not enmity.

The director of the Agency for Youth and Sports of North Macedonia, Naumce Moisovski, said for his part that neither he nor the government of his country approves of such behavior at a sports event and fully understands the position of the Bulgarian side.

Our Foreign Ministry condemned the desecration of the Bulgarian national anthem in Skopje

This is the reason why apologies were presented through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia the day after the football clash at the Tose Proeski Stadium in Skopje.
