The Georgian side expressed "extreme concern" to the diplomat and demanded additional explanations from the Belarusian side, "Echo Kavkaza" reports.

Lukashenka visits Abkhazia with a previously unannounced visit.

He said that he discussed the Abkhaz issue for a long time with Russian President

Vladimir Putin

at a meeting in Sochi.

Alexander Lukashenko previously stated that he does not rule out recognizing the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

According to him, as soon as he understands the necessity of this step, and the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin will tell him about it, then it can happen.

After that, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Peskov, said that the Kremlin will not send any signals to Alexander Lukashenko about recognizing the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, as well as Crimea as a Russian region.

  • In August 2021, Lukashenko explained why he did not recognize South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

According to him, the West threatened Minsk with additional sanctions in case of recognizing the independence of these self-proclaimed republics, while Moscow refused to compensate for the economic losses.

At the same time, the Belarusian leader called it a "bad fact" when "Osetia was separated from Georgia."

  • On August 30, Abkhazia leader Aslan Bzhania congratulated Alexander Lukashenko on his birthday.

Earlier, Bzhania said that Abkhazia is ready to join the so-called union state of Russia, Belarus and other countries, which may be formed after the war in Ukraine.

At the same time, the Abkhazian leader added that Abkhazia has no official contacts with the leadership of Belarus.

  • With the exception of Russia, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Nauru and Syria, all countries of the world consider Abkhazia and South Ossetia as territories of Georgia that are under the occupation of the Russian Federation.
