Drivers who drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs and those who cause an accident with a death, to receive an irrevocably effective sentence.

Such legal changes are being prepared by a working group at the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Justice, the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, Ch.

Commissioner Petar Todorov.

The proposals for changes to the law will be submitted for consideration in the 48th National Assembly.

" These drivers have their licenses revoked. When there is a reason, they are held criminally responsible, the cars are deregistered, but the regulatory framework, unfortunately, is such that it does not guarantee that when such a driver is caught, he will not again sit behind the wheel. This is a serious vice that we have been trying to change for a long time. Now very often agreements are made and drivers receive a sentence that is half of the administrative penalty, which should not be like that," said Todorov.

Experts: Drivers to be notified by email or SMS about violations

The Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs also stated that if guilty behavior is established in the "Semerjiev" case, there will be reshuffles in the leadership of the "Road Police".

At the moment, more than 40 employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are being prosecuted for forming a "police umbrella" over Semerdzhiev.

It is expected to last about two months.

"There are officials at the management level in the Traffic Police - heads of groups and heads of sectors - who issued a criminal decree against Semerdzhiev, given that in these cases he was criminally responsible. This practice continued back in time - during inspections, the violation was ignored Disciplinary proceedings have been launched and, where necessary, they will bear the appropriate disciplinary responsibility. Whether the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will be dismissed depends on the offense committed by each one of them," said Todorov.

Since the beginning of August, over 1,400 drink-driving drivers, over 1,250 disqualified drivers and over 700 drug-impaired drivers have been caught.

A streamlined organization has been created to protect the voting machines, assured Todorov.

At the moment, they are guarded in a warehouse at the gendarmerie.

From tomorrow they will begin to be transported in the respective directions, again under the control of the gendarmerie.

Starting tomorrow, a specialized police operation against vote-buying and the corporate vote will begin throughout the country, which will continue until the end of election day.

As a result of the operations against the trading of votes, which are carried out every day in different areas of the country, 26 proceedings for violation of electoral rights have been initiated so far.

As part of the actions, numerous crimes of a different nature were also uncovered, for which more than 250 pre-trial proceedings were initiated.
