Former German Chancellor

Angela Merkel

said that it would be political wisdom to take seriously the statements of the "Fuhrer".

She said this during her speech at the opening ceremony of the Chancellor Helmut Kohl Foundation, Süddeutsche Zeitung reports.

According to her, all threats of Vladimir Putin should not be considered a bluff.

"To take words seriously, not to brush them off from the very beginning, they say it's just a bluff, but to take them seriously. This is not a sign of weakness or appeasement, but a sign of political wisdom," Merkel said.

The publication emphasizes that such rhetoric "was more similar to the course of Chancellor Olaf Scholz than to the rhetoric of CDU leader Friedrich Mertz on the supply of weapons to Ukraine."

Sueddeutsche Zeitung writes that Merkel is now "very careful not to comment on political issues, perhaps also because the current war-related energy crisis is not least a result of her tenure."

We will remind you that the supreme representative of the EU for foreign policy, Josep Borrell, believes that the  threats voiced by the "Führer"

in his address to the people on September 21

should not be underestimated .
