Free ration scheme can continue for 3 more months

PM Garib Kalyan Yojana can continue for 3 more months in a modified form.

According to government sources- the cabinet has approved it and the formal announcement is likely to be made after 3 pm.

According to sources, the free ration scheme can be extended for three more months in view of the festivals.

However, due to the Russo-Ukraine war, there is already pressure of subsidies.

Increasing this scheme will put a burden of about 45 thousand crores on the government.

The Finance Ministry suggests that the amount of food given in it should be cut.

The period of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana is ending on 30 September 2022.

Now the government has only 2 days left to decide whether to continue this scheme or not.

This scheme of providing free ration to poor needy families has been implemented for 26 months from April 2020 to September 2022.

It is providing free food grains (rice/wheat) at the rate of 5 kg per person per month to about 80 crore beneficiaries.

The duration of this scheme has been extended 6 times so far.

It is the largest food security scheme in the world.

For the sixth time its period was extended for 6 months in April.
