Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan plans to have a telephone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin tomorrow.

According to APA's Istanbul correspondent, he said this in an interview with "CNN Turk" and "Kanal D" TV channels.

Erdogan noted that this conversation will take place at the initiative of Turkey, and he and his Russian counterpart will discuss the latest situation in Ukraine, especially the "referendums" taking place in the regions of Ukraine:

"I am not hopeless about peace.

It would be a dream to say that we will get such a result immediately.

The referendum event in 4 cities brings trouble.

I wish such a referendum would not be held.

But we could solve all this through diplomacy, and so could they.

A similar situation occurred in Crimea in 2014.

We did not succeed then.

We told Mr. Putin, "We have comrades in Crimea, the step you are taking is not correct," but it didn't work.

Mr. Zelensky also wants our support regarding the referendum in 4 regions.

My friends will be in touch and I would like to discuss these issues with Putin in detail tomorrow," Erdogan said.
