The GOVERNMENT has started providing vaccination against Covid-19 to children between the ages of five and 11 and it is expected that more than two million children will benefit from the program in the country.

According to the Minister of State for Primary Health Services, Dr. Tharcisse Mpunga, the special formulation is administered in two doses for a period of four to eight weeks between both doses of the Pfizer vaccine approved by different regulatory agencies including Food and Drug Authority of Rwanda.

The provision of the vaccine to children between the ages of 5 and 11 began here in the country on September 20, this year aiming to reduce the circulation of the virus in the community.

"The number of children infected or dying of Covid-19 is still small.

We encourage parents with children between the ages of 5-11 to sign a consent form so that the children can be vaccinated," said Mpunga.

Data from the Rwanda Health Center (RBC) show that, as of September 18, this year, among the 132,488 Covid-19 patients reported in this country, children aged 5 to 11 were 4,358 equal to 3.3 percent of all patients.

At the same time;

until September 18, there were 9,174,616 people in Rwanda who had received the first dose of the vaccine, among them, there were 8,945,720 who received the second vaccine while 316,615 received a booster.
