Putin on the referendums in the occupied Ukrainian regions: Russia wants to save the population

There are more than 600 polling stations operating on the territory of Russia, announced the chairman of the CEC Ela Pamfilova.

Most of them were opened in the southern part of the country, and by September 21 (two days before the referendum) 135 polling stations were planned to be opened in the Rostov region.

"We helped, facilitated the organization of voting in Russia for everyone who happened to be here by coincidence," said Pamfilova.

Russian President Vladimir Putin pledged to support the results of the referendums, saying in his address to Russians on September 21 that "we have no moral right to betray loved ones".

"We cannot fail to respond to their sincere desire to determine their own destiny," he emphasized.

Putin assured today that the referendums organized by Moscow in four occupied regions of Ukraine are aimed at "saving the population" living in these territories, France Press reported, quoted by BTA.

"Saving the population of all these territories where this referendum is being held is ... the focus of our society and the whole country," Putin said during a government meeting, on the last day of these referendums, branded as " illusions" from Kyiv and the West.

"Today, in the conditions of the special military operation and the referendums in Donbas, saving the people in all these territories, precisely saving the people in all these territories where this referendum is held, is a primary task and is the focus of the attention of our entire society , of the entire country," said the Russian president.

Summarizing the results of the government meeting, Putin noted that "this is natural because it is connected with dramatic events."

He emphasized that in such conditions the phrase "nobody is bigger than bread" takes on a special meaning.

"No one has yet abrogated the well-known, simple, and fundamental law contained in a very simple and well-known phrase, 'no one is greater than bread.'" And perhaps in such conditions as we now live, this law is one of the most important, given what is still happening around the world in food markets," the president noted.

He expressed gratitude to the Russian workers in the agrarian sector for what they have done so far in this direction.

Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the accession "referendums" ending today in the four Ukrainian zones under Moscow's control would lead to changes for those territories, mainly in terms of security with possible nuclear protection, AFP reported, citing from BTA.

"The situation will radically change from a legal point of view, from the point of view of international law, with all the relevant consequences for the purposes of protecting and guaranteeing the security of these territories," said Peskov.

"Our legal system will look at all options and, of course, our legislators, our executive bodies and our legal teams are ready," he added.
