Radio Liberty correspondent Zoryana Stepanenko spoke about how Europe reacts to Russians fleeing mobilization.

This is reported in the story of TSN.

In the European Union, cases of illegal crossing of the border by Russian evaders are already recorded.

Estonian border guards

told about something exotic among them .

The fear of going to the trenches due to the announced mobilization drove the citizen of the Russian Federation to the Narva River.

Her husband swam across on a freeboard.

For which, in the end, he received a fine and was sent back to Russia.

At the same time, the Estonian border guards do not note a noticeable increase in migration pressure.

But, they say, they are ready for him.

Preparations are also being made in Lithuania,

which last year faced a flow of migrants from the Middle East and Africa.

The security situation against the background of news about the mobilization in Russia, they admitted, is deteriorating, so they decided to strengthen the protection of the Lithuanian state border.

Finland, which is the last EU country that has an open land border with Russia , has

also increased surveillance of its border .

Finnish border guards advise to build a fence in some of its areas.

There is no government decision yet.

Long-kilometer queues of Russian cars, as, for example, on the Georgian border, are not yet there either.

However, those who still want to take refuge in the EU - this is how they explain their choice.

"Of course, I would like to change sides here until Russia gets things in order. Well... Nobody wants to fight.

I would like, damn it, to change sides here. In good, sweet Finland.

They want, most likely, to force me to fight. And I don't want to fight . I don't want to die young, hahaha!"

- said Andriy Kalinin, a resident of St. Petersburg.

Meanwhile, Poland, which, together with the Baltic countries, banned the entry of Russian tourists from last week, now also prevents them from passing through ports and airports.

All these states are not ready to issue humanitarian visas to Russians who want to exchange potential trenches for Europe.

However,

Western Europe is more loyal: Spain, the Netherlands, and Germany are ready to accept them

EU ambassadors discussed what to do with Russian evaders the day before.

They did not find an immediate solution, but they confirmed the desire to move towards a single response of the European Union to a possible flow of Russian migrants.

And the European Commission was instructed to

update the visa instructions.

What will they be, given the fact that Russians seeking refuge in the EU may well support the war, said the spokesmen of the European Commission.

However, they have not yet commented on the detailed situation there.

"The Commission is currently working on its recommendations and we will let you know when we have the results, when we have completed the work. We are in contact with member states, but the process is ongoing," said European Commission spokesman Eric Mamer.

The situation at the borders of the EU is now closely monitored and described as relatively calm.

They are currently working on

strengthening sanctions against Russia

 - this will be a punishment for the so-called referendums, mobilization, and nuclear threats.

More names on black lists, expansion of trade restrictions, in particular, a ban on the export of wood to Russia and the import of steel products and chemicals from there, sources in EU diplomatic circles said.

It is currently unknown when the sanctions will be imposed.

Obviously, this will depend on how quickly member states agree on the new package.
