The former head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, may become the authorized representative of the Russian president in the Crimean Federal District, where after the pseudo-referendums on accession, the territories of Ukraine that the Kremlin plans to annex may enter.

This was reported by "Vedomosti" with reference to a source in the Federation Council.

Another interlocutor of the publication, close to the Presidential Administration, said that a decision on Rogozin's appointment could be made in the coming days.

In the Kremlin, they are going to create another federal district in connection with the "difficult situation" surrounding the vote.

The Kremlin believes that a "political heavyweight" should head the new structure.

In July, after Rogozin's resignation from Raskosmos, the source of the newspaper assumed that the official could be appointed to supervise Donbass.

The newspaper "Moscow Komsamolets", without specifying the sources, reported that the official may take a leadership position in one of the territories of Ukraine occupied by Russia or pro-Russian separatists.

  • In July 2022, Putin dismissed Dmitry Rogozin from the position of head of Roscosmos, which he had held since 2018.

During his work, the state corporation lost a significant part of the market of commercial launches into space, ceased to be a monopoly in the field of delivering astronauts into orbit and, after the war with Ukraine, broke off cooperation with the European Space Agency.

At the same time, the accident rate of launches has significantly decreased in Russia.

  • Rogozin is one of the most active supporters of the war with Ukraine.

He declared that he was ready to personally send to the front, but he did not go there.

He was the leader of the nationalist party "Homeland" and was a member of the radical right party "Great Russia".
