The Minister of Information, Youth, Culture and Sports of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar (SMZ), Tabia Maulid Mwita has said that in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Sports in Mainland Tanzania, they have planned to ensure that they develop the sports sector, in order to bring productive international competition.

Minister Mwita said this, yesterday September 26, 2022 in the opening speech of the 16th Port Games (Interports Games) of the Tanzania Port Management Authority (TPA), at Jamhuri Stadium Morogoro involving more than 500 athletes.

He said there are clear efforts for both ministries in terms of building the capacity of sportsmen, so that they can perform well in various national and international competitions in the interest of Tanzanians.

Minister Mwita said for Zanzibar, his ministry has decided to revive the ministerial competition that started last year, at the ministerial level only and this year it has planned to involve various government institutions.

He said that in order to strengthen institutional cooperation, national unity and maintain the union, his ministry will cooperate with the port directors of both sides in Tanzania, Zanzibar and Mainland Tanzania to see if next year's competition can be held in Zanzibar.

"The holding of port games held by the Zanzibar side provides an opportunity to strengthen our existing fraternity with the Union which has been established for a long time," said Minister Mwita

And the Director General of TPA, Plasduce Mkeli Mbossa, in his speech read by the Deputy Director General, Engineer Juma Kijavara, said that the authority recognizes the importance of sports in improving the health of employees.

"Let me just emphasize to all our employees that it is good to practice even if there are no Interports games," said Kijavala
