A total of 4.9 million tourists visited Egypt in the first half of 2022, El Balad online publication reported, citing a message from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics in connection with World Tourism Day, which is celebrated today.

In comparison, during the same period in 2021, tourists were 2.6 million, an increase of 85.4 percent. 

A total of eight million people from all over the world visited the Nile country last year, an increase of 117.5 percent compared to 2020, when there were 3.7 million.

The statistical office reports that in 2021 the largest number of tourists arrived from Eastern Europe - 50.6 percent.

In second place is the Middle East with 18.9 percent, in third place is Western Europe with 16.4 percent, and in fourth place is Africa with 7.1 percent. 

The total number of tourist nights in the first half of 2022 reached 52.6 million, while from the beginning of January to the end of June in 2021 it was 32.2 million.
