More than 60 police officers in northern Germany have searched a luxury yacht linked to a Russian businessman suspected of violating sanctions and money laundering, the Associated Press reported, cited by BTA.

Prosecutors in Frankfurt said the suspect was a 69-year-old Russian businessman, and according to Spiegel magazine, Alisher Usmanov, a close ally of Putin.

According to the indictment, between 2017 and 2022, the suspect carried out several transactions using a complex network of offshore companies to conceal the origin of payments amounting to millions of euros.

Osmanov is included in the sanctions lists of both the US and the EU.

Today's police operation was carried out a week after the federal police raided 24 properties linked to Usmanov in various parts of Germany. 

A spokesman for the Frankfurt prosecutor's office confirmed that the search today was part of the investigation against the Russian oligarch.
